Wedding Vendors
So many things are needed (or rather, desired) for a wedding to be
"dreamy". And unfortunately, it would be very hard to try to do it all by
yourself. So, I searched Houston for the best of everything (best bang
for your buck), from caterer to florist and everything in between. (Those
that I don't consider "the best" I've also listed here for reference.)

Alterations
-
Paulette's (next to Mon Cheri in La Porte)
3981 Underwood Rd
La Porte, TX 77571
(281) 471-6364
They did an okay job on my dress. It could have been better, but oh well.
It also took them a little longer than they'd originally estimated. But
once I told the manager my complaints, they did fix the dress.

Cake Provider
-
Kay Bloom
281-291-0054
Kay Bloom makes delicious cakes! She doesn't charge extra for special
decorations or use of her pillars or fountain. She simply charges by the
slice (which are generous) based on the type of cake you want. She did a
fantastic job on our cakes and even stuck in the cake pulls for us.

Caterer
-
Ral's Fine Catering
1311 Afton
Houston, TX 77055
713-688-7257
Ral's cell:
Oh my goodness! You have not had pasta until you've had Ral's pasta.
Everything he makes is wonderful and he's got great prices! Plus the
presentation is beautiful and the wait staff are very pleasant as well.
What nice people!

Florist

The Wedding Party (Beautiful flowers!)
Houston, TX
Fax: 713-460-4833
Phone: 713-466-6874
Bobbie Farris creates the most incredible fresh flower arrangements you
have ever seen with the help of her friend, Susan who is a genius with
decorating. I attended several bridal extravaganzas in Houston and there
are always lots of florists. But the minute I saw their arrangements, I
was completely enraptured. We continued to look at florists because I
knew such beautiful flowers must be terribly expensive and she was WAY on
the other side of town (as were most of our vendors). But, I could never
shake the image that had been burned in my memory of their flowers. So,
we went with her. And I have never seen a more beautiful decorating job
done at a wedding at my church (not that I've been to EVERY wedding there,
and I may have been slightly prejudiced). But, I received more
compliments on the flowers than you can imagine. They were absolutely
breathtaking. And, her prices were reasonable for the amount of
decorations you get. Plus every arrangement she did we used at both the
reception and the ceremony!

Photographer
-
Morris McRae
400 S 8th St
Leesville, LA 71446
337-238-2520
337-238-1151
Beth's House: 281-648-1594 (or 948)
We were very fortunate to have the privilege of having Mr. McRae as our
photographer. He and his lovely wife Jackie used to live in Houston where
he ran his own photography studio. When he retired, they moved to a
lovely historic home in Leesville, LA. However, they were both friends of
my parents and so he agreed to do our photography. It was difficult since
it was long-distance planning and communicating ideas, though.
If I had not been able to have Mr. MrRae as our photographer, we probably
would have gone with Nan's photography in Houston because they do incredible
artistic black and white pictures.

String Quartet
-
Avalon Music
Angela Holly is the music coordinator for Avalon Music. You discuss with
her how big of a group you want with which type of instruments and she
puts a group together for you. We had a wonderful string quartet who
played before the wedding, during part of the ceremony, and then briefly
at the reception. They are professionals in every aspect, including
demeanor, performance, and attire. I highly recommend them. There are
some other music groups around town that are not as highly skilled
musicians as these are. (Most of Avalon's group plays in the Houston
Symphony.)

Videographer

Sam's Video
Wow! This man is the most amazing videographer. He really ran our show
when our coordinator wasn't available. He and his wife use professional
video cameras (like the News broadcasters use) and they wire the groom
with a microphone so that the sound is heard clearly on the video. Plus,
we also got a DVD with our package so we'll never have to worry about our
videotape deteriorating. And he even does a sweet music montage to clips
from the wedding at the end as the credits (wedding party, etc) roll. He
also got our videos to us VERY quickly and we love them! There could not
be a better videographer in Houston. Besides, he's the president of the
Houston Videographers Association and was used by the Bridal Extravaganza
to create their commercials.
